Damask roses, Damascene roses, are the most famous and most sought-after, almost certainly originating in the Middle East.

Chinesis roses are the oldest cultivars known to date; in fact, they are found in paintings from the first millennium. They were imported to Europe around 1700.

La Centifolia è una specie di rosa nota già in epoca Romana proveniente dall’Asia Minore. Furono gli Olandesi, nel XVI secolo, ad importarne in Europa circa 200 specie.

La Rosa Bourbon nacque nel 1817 sull’isola di Reunion, Oceano Indiano, da un incrocio spontaneo tra una rosa cinese e una damascena usate per le siepi.

Alba roses are European and of very ancient origin: one of them, the Alba Semiplena appeared in the York coat of arms in the famous War of the Two Roses.

Commonly known as wild, botanical roses are not the result of a hybridisation process.
